Wrap – Week Ended 1/25/13

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Comments on last week will be included in The Week That Was Section of the Monday Post.

Holdings Watch:

ZLT - We added trading positions to a couple of ZLT names and added a starter position in a new yield name yesterday after retiring essentially half our our SJT position, up 22% excluding distribution after a higher than expected capital budget signaled a drop in yield, all other items being held constant.

ZLT -  C -  No changes on the week.

Not much activity in the ZMT to report and we're likely to back off a SWN call position there in the next week or two and re-initiate in front of earnings.  Shout out goes to BOP for the nudge on the HAL calls Thursday!

In general, performance to date in the year is running in line with the averages.

Commodity Watch:

  • Detail comments will be included in the Monday post. We are looking for the biggest withdrawal of the season next Thursday due to the arrival of actual winter weather but more importantly continued strong demand on the monthly numbers out of EIA for November (record Industrial, record Electrical (both for the month) and strong Residential and Commercial figures (where we've been seeing an improvement of late in the off months)  late next week. Look for the Natural Gas Supply and Demand slide shows in next Friday's post.

Other Stuff:

  • Look for the week 3 earnings calendar in the Monday post along with a Utica Players update.
  • Make sure to follow us on Twitter at ZmansEnrgyBrain and on Seeking Alpha here.

Nasdaq not showing yet but your short squeeze website has NOG now at 9.6mm vs 10.3mm as of 1/15. Down and down. Stock up only 2.68% YTD. Wish the buying had more impact. Won't be able to make a Herb goatboy Tshirt if this keeps up.

re 3 – He helped knock the stock while being absolutely wrong about the fundamentals of the company.   The lack of performance shall pass; I'm very patient with names that are very cheap and moving towards free cash flow status (each month they are getting a little closer).  No equity sale this year but looking for a bolt on to their senior debt deal. Meanwhile TEV drifts up slowly (if the stock holds flat) on the debt build alone but debt to cap remains in good shape as does EBITDA / Interest while production grows 30+% in 2013.

Australian mining company Linc Energy announced this week that it had discovered shale oil deposits in the South Australian outback that would put the area’s reserves above those of Saudi Arabia if proven commercially viable. The estimates for now are a bit rough—to say the least—with Linc Energy noting anywhere between 4 billion and 230 billion barrels of oil in the fields it owns
